Transfer an old work pension

Yes, you can transfer an old work pension to Beach. 

Combining your old work pensions is often a great way to manage your retirement savings. And means you can avoid losing or forgetting about them in future.

You’ll be able to transfer most old work pensions. However, the pension can’t have any benefits linked to it, often called ‘defined benefits’, such as where you receive a guaranteed income when you retire (common in public sector jobs such as the NHS). This includes ‘defined contribution schemes’ with guaranteed benefits too.

It can often be better to leave the pension where it is as the benefits can be valuable.

You’ll probably know if you do have any defined benefits, and it should be on any paperwork you have, but if you’re not too sure, it’s worth checking with your old pension provider or your previous employer.

To transfer your old pension to Beach, head into your account within the app, and navigate to transfer a pension. You’ll be asked for the name of your old pension provider and the policy number, which you can usually find from your online account, or any paperwork provided.

We’ll handle the rest, and your money will turn up in your account within around 6 weeks (although it can be quicker or longer depending on the provider you are transferring from).

Sometimes your old provider might request some extra forms. We'll let you know if this is the case via email and help you understand them if you’d like us to.

Note: We won't charge a fee for transferring a pension. However, your current provider may charge a fee. They should let you know.
