What is a National Insurance number?

Your National Insurance number is unique to you, and used by the Government to record how much tax and National Insurance you’ve paid over your lifetime.

Your number never changes, and is made up of numbers and letters. For example: AB 123456 C

You’ll find it on:

  • Your payslip (or P60)
  • On letters about your tax, pension or benefits
  • In your government ‘personal tax account’ (if you have one)

If you’re still not sure, try the Government website.

Why do we need it?

We need your National Insurance number to verify who you are, and to register your account with the Government for tax reasons (as you’ll be saving tax-free), and benefit from a 25% Government bonus on your pension savings.
